My son and I were geared up and fired up with our list of several must do hikes when we visited Arches National Park in May of 2025. Between a couple of strenuous hikes on our first day in the park, we wandered through Arches searching for an easy hike and a mid morning break. We found ourselves at the trailhead of Sand Dune Arch.
Sand Dune Arch is a simple .3 mile out and back stroll, so we didn’t expect too much. We were coming off a phenomenal sunrise hike to Delicate Arch and thinking about the next big hike. We forced ourselves to slow down for a bit, and it paid off in an unexpected way. We were both awestruck when we encountered the natural beauty of Sand Dune Arch.
The Takeaway
The simple act of slowing our pace refuels us, and it can even lead to some memorable experiences. It’s easy to overlook amazing people or places if we don’t slow down on occasion to take in what’s around us.
The Reflection
Being consistently present and unplugging with regularity is a habit that I want to continue developing. It’s helpful to pause daily, weekly, monthly to refuel and reimagine. Sometimes, we just need to take a stroll and look around.
Field Question
How do you slow down to refuel and become present more consistently?
